Abstract
With the advent of digital media, globalization and rapidity of technology, a new kind of identity has been defined: virtual identity. Users of cyberspace try to show themselves better than what they are in the real world: ideal self. This can be done with the improvement of smart phones and digital photography by sharing photo and the use of the art of photography Instagram was greatly welcomed among Iranian and non-Iranian users for it’s great opportunity for sharing photos. Instagram and such spaces act as a virtual photo gallery with invisible walls for photographers. Then a photographer looks like an actor- as Erving Goffman said – who performs his fronts behind the audience into the framework of the social stereotypes. Comments and likes. Are feedback that help the photographer choose better topics and progress. In this research we interviewed some of photographers who have been active users of Instagram in recent years and we tried to answer our project main question: How is Instagram photography experienced by photographers. Also two subsidiary questions were answered: How can photo affect photographer’s self-representation? And how being updated is experienced by Instagram photography?
